Dead tree at 715 16th Street brings the owner back

Article based on September 23, 2026 Code Enforcement Board Regular agenda, made available via city website ~Sep 16, 2026

A dead tree at 715 16th Street is still standing, so owner Eric Kenney is back before the code board.

The city lists the trunk as a prohibited nuisance. Kenney already sat through a hearing on the same pine. That file described a storm sending the top 20 percent of the tree into a yard and clipping a foundation. The trunk is still up. Kenney told the board he was there to cooperate and that he was "legitimately not taking the thing." Cutting it to six feet came up anyway.

The city that needs a permit to take a tree down is spending more city time on a hearing because this one was left up. The packet does not say the leftover wood is falling on anyone now. It says the tree is dead, and that is enough for another Wednesday.

The matter is set for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, at City Hall, 2200 A1A South.
