Tourist-tax cash should pay for Beach bathrooms, commissioners said; the city bill still does
At the July 27 special budget meeting, commissioners said the county Tourist Development Council — not the city tax bill — ought to cover Beach bathrooms. A Street bathrooms were named. Category 5, beach services, is the TDC pot they said still has money.
They said St. Augustine Beach generates so much of those tourist-tax dollars that more of them should come back. The capital packet listed $50,000 to refurbish A Street and 10th Street bathrooms, then marked the line to $0. Any extra TDC dollar still requires that council to say yes.
Unfunded technology mandates and a $150,000 public-works building line came up as other places to cut. The bathroom ask was the one that pointed off the island.
