What you plant between the sidewalk and the street may need a city permit

ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. — The city's environmental committee meets Sept. 10 after asking staff in July whether landscaping and hardscape in the public right-of-way should require a city permit.

On July 9, the Sustainability and Environmental Planning Advisory Committee said those installations were increasing and lacked consistent environmental standards. Members discussed permit requirements, maintenance agreements, and Florida-friendly and native plants. They did not adopt a rule. They agreed to gather information from city staff on existing right-of-way procedures and future policy options before making recommendations.

Nothing is required yet.

The matter is set for 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, at City Hall, 2200 A1A South.
