Commissioners will vet City Hall wording on the homestead tax cut
City Manager Max Royle is scheduled on September 8, 2026, to review language for a frequently asked questions page on Florida's constitutional amendment to increase the homestead exemption.
The amendment is a tax break for homestead properties. The commission is not voting that night to raise anyone's exemption. It is reviewing City Hall's wording.
The same board that sets the city's property tax rate now has website copy about a statewide tax cut on its agenda.
In June, Vice Mayor Virginia Morgan pressed for that kind of public education, citing municipal revenue cuts and "potential service impacts" if the measure passes. The amendment still goes to the voters, not through the city's page.
The matter is set for 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, at City Hall, 2200 A1A South.
