2–2 tie put off the 610 A1A house — still a special OK on commercial land
The City Commission on May 4 split 2–2 on a special OK that would have let a single-family house go up on a commercially zoned vacant lot at 610 A1A Beach Boulevard, then tabled the permit until five commissioners are present. The planning board had already voted 5–0 on April 21 to recommend approval.
The lot is about 0.14 acres of vacant commercial land. Nobody asked to rezone it. Recommended conditions would lock in medium-density house rules, a 35 percent lot-coverage cap, required buffers, a one-year expiration, and a front facing A1A Beach Boulevard.
Scott Patrou, for 610 A1A Properties LLC, said commercial work was not feasible once city parking rules hit the small lot. The night was spent on whether to waive the map for a house anyway. Mayor Beth Sweeny and Vice Mayor Virginia Morgan voted yes. Commissioners Undine George and Donald Samora voted no. Commissioner Dylan Rumrell was absent.
The approval motion failed on the tie. George then moved to table until the full board is present — another hearing for the same leftover commercial sliver. That motion passed unanimously.
